Pack people up, because it’s time to move to Carmel, Indiana! Yes, it is the city called the best place to live in the country, for 2 years in a row. So don’t be surprised if you see people already living there rejoice and celebrate. There are only 91,065 of them.

Naming Carmel as the best city living in the United States is not something that people simply decided by chance, different factors were considered. Some of the issues considered are how the city ranks among other settlements in the country in terms of crime statistics, employment statistics, the quality of education, poverty, ease of transportation, low taxes and trends in housing.

Brief History of Carmel

If you are not aware, Carmel is called the city of roundabouts. Why, you ask? Well, because it contains more roundabouts than any other city in the United States. The place was established in the year 1837, having the original name of ‘Bethlehem’. The area considered to be the first original plot in Carmel was marked with a belfry. The name was changed to Carmel in 1874, after the name of the first post office established on the site.

Fast Growing City

Perhaps one of the reasons why Carmel received the best housing in the United States, two years in a row, is that it has become one of the fastest growing economic cities in the country. From being essentially an unknown and sleepy place, it is now thriving economically, and is considered a very exciting city.

Other Reasons You Should Move to Carmel:

Free and Safe Place to Activate

One of the great qualities Carmel has is that it provides a safe neighborhood, including the area that encompasses the Money Trail. You don’t need to spend money on gym memberships if you want to stay in good shape, just run along the historic road, which is 18.1 miles long, which is very popular with runners, rollerbladers and motorcyclists.

Carmel High School

If you have children, you would have a chance to send them to the largest high school in Indianapolis State, Carmel High School. The home of the “Greyhounds” can provide your children with a quality education and a safe environment.

The Center for the Performing Arts

If you love music and the performers, one of the reasons you move here is the Performing Arts Center. Comments from people who attended performances in the theater are very positive – great lighting, great sounds, all the seats give a great view, several bars to minimize long queues for patrons and easy access to parking. Who knows, if theater is your passion, you would even have a chance to perform at the center.

You are Never Alone

When you visit downtown, you may go alone, but you will never be left alone, as there are statues everywhere, depicting people doing everyday things. You can sit on a bench next to the statue of a merchant reading a newspaper, feel safe next to the statue of a police officer, or just smile at statues of fathers spending time with their children. You won’t feel alone because the statues looked realistic. However not as realistic as the wax figures of Mrs. Tussaud, but quite close.

Large Farmers Market

Food is a basic necessity; of course you would want a great place to buy food. People have only good words for the peasant market in Carmel, from good music and atmosphere, to a wide variety of food on offer, and the unity among customers as they are one family – wouldn’t you want to be a part of that? Some people in the market have said that you will walk around the market which will take you anywhere between 1 to 2 hours to visit all the stalls. Maybe stay longer if it’s as great as they consider it?
